PHOENIX, ARIZONA is the largest city in Arizona and the Phoenix metropolitan area is the fifth largest in the country. Phoenix has a population of 1.4 million and covers more than 514 square miles. Phoenix has 14 libraries 412 miles of bicycle pathways and 8 municipal golf courses. There are 207 parks that cover 37,188 acres. Major companies such as Intel, Avnet, Motorola, AlliedSignal, Honeywell, Boeing, STMicroelectronics, American Express, Phelps Dodge, Prudential, Charles Schwab, Dial and Mayo Clinic all have significant operations in Phoenix.
PHOENIX REAL ESTATE MARKET: The Phoenix real estate market continues to boom. New developments in Phoenix include Sonoron Foothills and many new home developments up the northern corridor as well new developments north on Cave Creek. As of March 2006 the median resale home value is 215,000 and new home was $271,040.
PHOENIX HISTORY: The Phoenix was first populated by individuals back in 700 A.D. to 1400 A.D. that built extensive canals and made extensive irrigation systems. No one knows what happened to this ancient society. Later, Indians found the Pueblo Grnade ruins and gave the name “Ho Ho Kam” to the society that was gone. In 1868 a small colony developed in the area with a Richard Flour Mills being one of Phoenix’s first businesses. From 1870 and on more pioneers came to the town. The first town of Phoenix was developed and streets were named after our early presidents. Originally the north south streets were named for Indians, but was this was later changed to numbered streets. In 1881 the town was incorporated and had a population of 2500. By 1920 the population of Phoenix was up to 29,053 and by 1930 it grew to 48,118. By the 1940s and the war the area grew rapidly with the additions of Luke Field, Williams Field and Falcon Fields.
PHOENIX ATTRACTIONS:
1) TRADE SHOWS – Downtown Phoenix has the Phoenix Civic Plaza that is 24 acre facility. This facility hosts trade shows, national and regional convention, consumer events and theatrical productions.
2) PHOENIX ZOO – The Phoenix Zoo is a great destination. It is ranked as being one of the better zoos for children. Located North of I 202 and near 64th Street the zoo is 125 acres and is the home for tigers, lions and bears.
3) CRICKET PAVILION – Cricket Pavilion is the newer name for the Desert Sky Pavilion. Cricket Pavilion is near I10 and 83d Avenue and hosts big name concerts all year long.
4) SPORTING EVENTS – Phoenix is the home to the Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Arizona Rattlers
