Peoria Arizona Weather

PEORIA, ARIZONA

Why Would I Want to Live in Peoria, Arizona?

Let’s start with the number one reason many move to the Valley of the Sun, weather.  Oh sure it gets into triple digits in the summer and we have all heard the jokes about it’s a dry heat.  Well actually it is a very dry heat.  At times the temps reach the 115 range during the middle of the summer but that usually only lasts for about 25-40 days.  To be very honest, during the times of our peak heat other parts of the country are seeing temps between 90-100 with an ungodly amount of humidity.  I love the outdoors but can’t tolerate high heat with high humidity, but I can always tolerate the 115-degree days here in Peoria.  Now let’s talk about January!  On average we have 20-22 days above 60 degrees during the day and 5-8 over 70.  When watching the Weather Channel and I see the horrible weather so many endure this time of year, its no wonder we are now the fastest growing state in the country.  We just don’t shovel snow here in the valley!  I don’t know anyone that even owns a snow blower, or a snow shovel.

Unlike some of the other communities in the valley, Peoria still has much room to grow.  There is so much land that is undeveloped in the northwest part of town and this is the most scenic parts of the town.  Peoria has many mountains as they call them here; I like to refer to them as large hills.  We have the only good sized lake in Lake Pleasant on the northwest side of town that offer great fishing and boating.  Although Peoria’s population has grown to well over 120,000 we still maintain that small town feel with small town values.  We have many, many parks and many housing areas have lush parks and greenbelt areas for our children.  All new housing areas are providing safe places for our children to play so they can be our leaders of tomorrow.

So you say you like the snow!  Actually with a short two-hour drive to Flagstaff you can have all fun in the snow you could ever imagine.  Humphries Peak our states largest mountain at over 11,000 feet along with a few other mountain that make up the snow bowl offers great skiing, snowboards, boogie boarding, sledding, snow mobiling and anything you could imagine to do in the snow.  Many folks in the valley also head that direction in the summer when temps break 100 degrees as they normally see temps in the high 70’s to low 80’s during the day.

For years now the Peoria School system has been recognized as one of the best in the state.  Many, many young families come here and establish roots for this reason alone.  The schools are not over crowded and our children are getting a fine education by some fine educators.

Some of the new and beautiful housing areas are, Fletcher Heights, Dove Valley Ranch, Westwing Mountain, Vistancia and Trilogy at Vistancia, Terramar, just to name a few.

Peoria, Arizona a growing town with small town values, friendly people, beautiful housing, convenient location, great schools, great weather and most importantly an absolute great place to live!

Until recently, Peoria Arizona was an agricultural area between Glendale to the east and Sun City to the west. Today due to a quickly growing population and recent annexations have made Peoria one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. As of the 2000 Census Peoria Arizona had more than 122,000 residents and was the 9th largest cities in Arizona.  Peoria now spans over 140 square miles.

PEORIA ARIZONA LOCATION AND INDUSTRY:   Peoria, Arizona  is conveniently located on the 101 Loop, providing easy access to all other parts of the Valley and to Sky Harbor International Airport.  The city has attracted desirable commercial, light industrial, medical and tourism development, which will continue to play an important role in Peoria's strong economy. Major employers include Peoria Unified School District, Bell Rd Auto Dealers, City of Peoria, Plaza Del Rio Campus, and Freedom Plaza Care Center.

PEORIA ARIZONA REAL ESTATE MARKET:   Peoria is experiencing tremendous growth with the new home communities in WestWing Mountain (up 83rd Avenue), growth North on Lake Pleasant road and Vistancia.   Vistanica is over 18000 acres of homes both for active adults as well as families.   As of March 2006 the median homes sales price was $271,350 and new home price was $377,035.  Other notable subdivisions in Peoria are Fletcher Heights and Dove Valley Ranch.

PEORIA ARIZONA HISTORY: The City of Peoria was established in the 1880's when William J. Murphy's vision of fertile farm lands fed by water from the Salt River became reality with the completion of the Arizona Canal in 1885. Once this canal was completed, Murphy went East to interest people in settling in this new community. Mr. Murphy was successful in catching people's attention - over 5,000 acres of land in the new district was purchased by citizens from Peoria, Illinois. Four families from Peoria, Illinois were among the first to move to Arizona to occupy and work their land.

Homes in the new community sprang up, and a school and Post Office were established by 1889. More people followed the original families and Peoria Arizona continued to grow as a farming community. The farmlands were fertile and the people made a good living, despite having to battle swarms of red ants and the occasional rattlesnake in the kitchen. Peoria was incorporated in 1954.

Peoria Arizona Homes PEORIA ARIZONA EDUCATION:   There are 25 public elementary schools and five   public high schools in Peoria. The area is served by the Peoria Unified School  District.
