Cave Creek History Cave Creek started out as a mining town. In the late 1860’s miners were a plenty in Cave Creek, Wickenburg, and New River. In 1874 gold was found on Gold Hill and the Cave Creek Mistress Mine began. In 1873 a road was built between Phoenix and Cave Creek. It was just a wagon road, but it later became well traveled Cave Creek Road.
In the early 1900’s ranching started in the Cave Creek area. Later the construction of Bartlett Dam and the Horseshoe Dam brought in an influx of people. The area has continued to grow since then.
