Buckeye History
The settlement that later became the town of Buckeye was started by Thomas Newt Clanton and his family from Creston Iowa. The area got a boost later when the area realized the construction of the Buckeye Canal. It was called the Buckeye Canal after one of the builders, Malin M. Jackson’s home state of Ohio and the Buckeye State.
The new post office was built and later the Arizona Eastern Railroad passed through town. In the early 1900s a new interstate passed through the community which also added to its increase in size.
